French soldiers fired at protesters in Burkina Faso

This former French colony with 21 million inhabitants is located in the Sahel, stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Red Sea, sub-Saharan South. Armed groups are active there, and some of them have sworn allegiance to the so-called Islamic State (IS) or al Qaeda.

Burkina Faso has not been attacked for a long time, but this number has increased significantly since 2015. According to the United Nations, there are now more than 1.2 million people at large in their own country. Many militiamen cross the border to Mali and other countries.
