Controversy over flyers for activists
North Korea announced in June last year that it completely interrupted all official channels of communication with South Korea. The background is a controversy over an action by South Korean activists who sent leaflets to the border containing critical messages of Pyongyang’s policies.
South Korean activists and North Korean refugees have repeatedly sent hot air balloons with leaflets to the North Korean border, condemning the human rights situation and Pyongyang’s nuclear program. These actions often lead to huge tensions between North Korea and South Korea.
