A sort ofNational Geographic Withdrawal The U.S. government hopes to receive thousands of Afghans who worked for the U.S. or related U.S. agencies during military operations in Afghanistan. The U.S. State Department said on Monday that this should apply to Afghans who work for the United States but have not reached the minimum term to apply for special immigrant visas.
The regulation also applies to Afghans working on projects supported by the US government-as well as Afghans working for NGOs or US media in crisis countries. It said the regulations will enable “tens of thousands” of Afghans and their partners and children to relocate to the United States. “You are for us. We will be there to serve you,” said U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Brinken.
The criticism stems from the fact that Afghans initially had to leave the country on their own to participate in the program and had to stay in a third country for 12 months or more when processing such resettlement applications.
2500 people intend to apply for a special visa
After the U.S. military withdrew, Afghans working for the Americans were threatened with retaliation by militant Islamists TalibanFor example, many Afghans who work as translators in the US military can apply for a special immigrant visa from the US so that they can start a new life there. On Friday, the first plane carrying about 200 Afghan aid workers and their families landed in the United States. Brinken said that the second plane arrived on Monday and there was a similar large group.
According to the US government, a total of approximately 2500 people are currently expected to enter the United States on such special visas. However, critics warn that this type of visa will only help a small number of people. More and more Afghans are putting themselves at risk and in need of help because of cooperation with US agencies. The State Council subsequently expanded the range of options.
The United States intends to completely end its military operations in Afghanistan by the end of August. After that, only American soldiers will stay to protect the embassy in Afghanistan. As the Americans decided to withdraw, the entire NATO operation also ended. It is not clear how the situation in the country will continue after the withdrawal of international forces. The security situation has deteriorated significantly recently.
