How sad, profound, and absurd is the federal government’s nepotism?
We have reached the point where private companies demand crony preference- Against the government.
In this brave new world, we are forced to… uh… defend the government. Because nepotism is terrible-no matter who its victims are.
We hope that everyone will receive equal protection before the law. Nepotism runs counter to this everywhere.
As always, when nepotism is aimed specifically at a certain person-it generally causes trouble for all of us.
When nepotism makes the government spend money, nothing is more straightforward. Because, of course, that is our money.
In this case, the government agency that may be messed up by government nepotism is the United States Postal Service (USPS).
Now, I don’t like USPS. In all. Its self-regulated mail monopoly is of course absurd. Its bookkeeping has been inaccurate and overdrawn. It has been distributed Huge nepotism Through its package delivery business to (at least) the giant tech giant Amazon.
That being said, look HR3076 — The Postal Reform Act of 2021.
Arisen opposed section 202 of the bill:
“Hidden with the proposal is a provision in Section 202, part of which states:’The postal service shall maintain an integrated network to provide market-led and competitive products.’
“If the term’integrated network’ seems ambiguous and confusing, it is because it does.
“The non-partisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) analysis of the bill pointed out that the integrated network clause is’not defined in the bill, nor in the USPS guidelines.’
“CRS proposes that the clause may refer to the delivery of packages and mail in the same vehicle. Even so, it still urges Congress to’seek clarification’ of the exact meaning.”
Now, I fully support the bill introduced by Congress with greater clarity. The reason we have a large, irresponsible, and unconstitutional fourth government department-the executive state-is because Congress has spent decades enacting ambiguous laws that allow unelected bureaucrats (re) Define them to get the most advantage.
However, if we have a clear understanding of Article 202-it definitely means “delivering packages and mail in the same vehicle?” This is of course a financially conservative thing to continue to do.
Otherwise, what should the post office do? Use our money to pay for twice the labor of its carrier and copy every car in its fleet-and have the parcel truck follow every mail truck on the exact same route?
Why would anyone oppose this “integrated network”? Why would anyone force the post office to waste all this money? Who wants to push up the government-and of course ours-the cost of doing business?
If you are an ancient Roman, you would ask “Tui Bono?” Today’s english translation: “Who benefits?”
If post offices must charge more for their package delivery (because they are prohibited from increasing mail prices to offset package delivery), which private sector companies will do better?
So, which private companies compete with USPS for the package delivery business? Think of companies like FedEx, DHL, and UPS.
Because of this kind of government cronyism, these companies will benefit greatly from the artificial increase in the cost of parcels at the post office (significantly). In contrast, their prices look much better.
Then they can charge higher fees themselves-or gain additional market share. In fact, given that this kind of nepotism will cause the USPS price to rise sharply, it is almost certain that both will cause it.
UPS has already specifically said They want to see the post office increase package prices:
“Private carriers like UPS are actively lobbying Congress Increase The price of postal services so that they in turn raise their prices.
“These lobbyists point out that in 2017 Citigroup analyze This actually reveals how increasing USPS prices will create $1.5-19 billion “revenue opportunities” for private carriers such as UPS.
“Some companies are already taking action. Recently, after rejecting deliveries from less profitable customers during the pandemic and recording record profits, UPS Tell investors Increasing interest rates and prioritizing lucrative deliveries rather than increasing quantities will lead to higher profit margins in the future.
“In addition, according to the April quarterly earnings report, UPS disclose They plan to increase shipping rates and focus on getting business from customers with higher profit margins. “
Finally, where to get the extra UPS dirty?
UPS is cutting low-end, low-margin customers. And use the Chinese virus blockade as a cover.
They can do it—because the USPS universal service authorization allows them to do so. USPS must be delivered to everyone. Therefore, UPS can tell poor and rural Americans to make the leap-by offloading them to the government.
UPS is now trying to get the government to force the separation of USPS’ mail and package delivery services. Forcing the USPS to unnecessarily double the labor and fleet of its carriers, which inevitably increases its prices substantially.
This is the government’s nepotism, which benefits UPS-at the expense of the government. Of course, this is at our expense.
Because before the government’s money, this is our money.
With this kind of government cronyism, UPS is seeking to earn more and more of our money—their money—indirectly, secretly, and annoyingly.
