A few days ago, Gene Wu, a fleeing Texas Democrat, mocked on Twitter that he was only a few days away from achieving his goal of abolishing voter integrity legislation in his hometown. certainly, He sent that tweet From Washington, DC, because he and dozens of his colleagues fled the state to refuse to reach a quorum and vote through the Republican majority.
Fortunately, he has time to do this between the two Super communicator incident.
In a few days, I will complete my legislative goal, which is to cancel the country’s most partisan anti-voter legislation.
I will continue to tweet. You keep crying. https://t.co/9ZSyd8cHBU

In terms of its advantages (not to mention strategy), this tweet is crazy. The Texas Voter Integrity Act is not the “most partisan” anti-voter legislation in the United States. All it did was restore things to pre-pandemic levels, including stopping 24-hour voting and different types of ballot collections that mainly took place in Harris County.
But as I wrote at the time, Wu apparently celebrated on the 10-yard line, and Governor Greg Abbott just intercepted the pass and ran it back.
I will hold the second special meeting on August 7.
This #txlege The work that has already been started must be completed.
I will hold special meetings time after time to reform our broken bail system, maintain election integrity, and pass other projects that Texans demand and deserve. https://t.co/EXoHBR0JTg
— Greg Abbott (@GregAbbott_TX) August 5, 2021
This is exactly what I predicted he would do, but to be fair, I believe that almost everyone who is not named Wu knows that this will happen too. This is what makes the premature victory declaration a headache. Abbott will never let go after a meeting, and it seems that he will not let go until the Texas Democrats completely surrender. The promise to continue to convene the special meeting after the special meeting must be a big punch for the fugitives.
As I wrote at the beginning of this article, They played a chicken-eating game that they couldn’t win. What is the plan here? I can’t imagine that they really think that Abbott will fold without having to spend any money to keep the House of Representatives meeting. Are they really going to sit in Washington for another year? I just didn’t see this happen.
So what will happen now?
The Texas Democrats have two options: 1) they can go home and let Abbott arrest them and claim that they won after a month, or 2) they can continue to abandon their families and return to live in Texas It is hoped that the electoral reform bill will be postponed until the 2022 general election.
I think the first option is the most likely, and I think this is what Wu tried to establish when he announced his victory on Twitter three days ago. This has always been a big publicity stunt with no hope of success, and the final scene of the performance will claim that their trip to Washington was a victory because they raised their awareness of voting rights or other aspects.
In any case, it is good for Abbott to be tough here. There are many Republican governors (coughing Asa Hutchinson coughing) who will never push for arrest warrants or convene special meetings to force these Democrats to do what they are legally required to do.
