The Taliban are occupying the country. Criticism of the deportation to Afghanistan has recently become louder. The Federal Ministry of the Interior is now responding.
widthDue to the sharp deterioration of the security situation in Afghanistan, Germany will no longer deport rejected asylum seekers. A spokesperson for the German Federal Ministry of the Interior said at the German News Agency in Berlin on Wednesday: “Due to the current security situation, the Federal Minister of the Interior has decided to temporarily suspend repatriation to Afghanistan.” Initially, the deportation of six Afghans delayed last week will not be compensated.
Since the decision to withdraw international forces from Afghanistan in mid-April, the security situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated sharply. The Taliban have now regained control of nine provincial capitals.
On Tuesday, the EU ambassador in Kabul only expressed support for stopping deportations. 26 organizations including Amnesty International, Pro Asyl, Caritas and Diakonie also expressed their support in a joint statement.
The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently preparing a new asylum report for Afghanistan, which is usually the main basis for deportation decisions. However, there is no such report yet. Since 2016, more than 1,000 migrants have returned to Afghanistan, most of them criminals.
