Weekly Economics Podcast: Where does our immigration system come from?

This week, a controversial deportation flight flew to Jamaica. The legal challenge means that only one in ten of the 90 people who will be deported are on the plane. Those planning to be deported include those whose lawyers have stated that they have the right to stay in the UK under Windrush rules, or those who have arrived in the UK as children.

Critics say our immigration system is too cruel. But what is its origin story? How does it change over time? What does it have to do with British colonial history?

In the final episode of the series, Ayeisha joined Ian Sanjay Patel, a human rights researcher and author at the London School of Economics and Political Science. We are here because you are there: immigration and the end of empire.
