The U.S. Capitol Police said they were investigating a bomb threat near the Library of Congress on Thursday. The Associated Press reported that they were investigating trucks that may contain explosives in the area, which is close to the Capitol and the Congressional Office.
“This is an active bomb threat investigation,” Congressional Police said on Twitter.
The Capitol Police asked anyone working in the Cannon Congress Office to leave and relocate to the adjacent Longworth Building, and they let those working in the Madison Building rest in their offices. The Jefferson Building, which is part of the Library of Congress, was also evacuated.
The House of Representatives and the Senate are currently not meeting.
“USCP is responding to a suspicious vehicle near the Library of Congress,” the Congress Police wrote on Twitter. “Please stay away from this area.”
