The World Health Organization has issued an appeal for experts to join the new advisory group it is forming, partly to address the agency’s attempt to investigate Coronavirus pandemic here we go.
In a statement on Friday, the United Nations health agency stated that the new scientific team will provide WHO with an independent analysis of the work done so far to determine the origin of COVID-19 and advise the WHO on the necessary next steps. Agency provides advice. Experts will also provide guidance on key issues regarding the potential emergence of other viruses that may cause outbreaks, such as MERS and Ebola.
The WHO stated that it is looking for up to 25 officials with relevant expertise to apply for membership in its new scientific advisory group by September 10.
In March, an international team of experts led by the World Health Organization issued a preliminary report that the origin of COVID-19 was “extremely unlikely” that the origin of COVID-19 was related to the laboratory. Although scientists believe that the virus is most likely to be transmitted from animals to humans, in recent months, theories involving laboratories have received widespread attention, and US President Joe Biden ordered an intelligence review to test this possibility.
Critics lashed out at the WHO’s preliminary assessment, calling it a flawed effort, and pointing out that all team members sent to China need approval from the Chinese government, as does the WHO report.
WHO Director-General Tan Desai admitted last month that it was “premature” to rule out laboratory leaks, describing laboratory accidents as “common.”
In a Danish documentary released earlier this month, the WHO team leader said during his visit to China that he was concerned about the safety standards near the facility where the first human COVID-19 case was found in Wuhan — previously undisclosed Worried by the World Health Organization.
Many health experts and scientists called for independent investigations outside the WHO, stating that the agency has no right to force countries, including China, to cooperate.
According to the terms of reference announced on Friday, the new WHO expert group will also be subject to certain confidentiality rules, similar to the rules of many other expert groups of the agency.
The guidelines stipulate that members shall not speak to any third party on behalf of the WHO or the group, internal deliberations shall be regarded as “strictly confidential”, and shall not cite or use any documents outside the group’s authority.
WHO will retain full control over any reports, including whether they will be released.
