In Princeton, a student’s struggle with compulsory moral reform has ended.
Just a few years ago, Timothy Keiderling, a New Yorker, had an idea: go to seminary-in his words-“give my life, work for justice, practice God Kingdom’s values.”
Thus, his journey at Princeton Theological Seminary began.
But in the end, I hit a bump.
According to reports Clear investigation (RCI), the school requires him to receive “anti-racism” training.
What is anti-racism?CNN remind US:
Becoming an anti-racist means more than getting rid of racist attitudes, beliefs and behaviors. This means that you are also actively fighting this condemned Trinity, because it manifests in your life every day.
Although racism is something anyone can do, it seems be opposed toRacism is the only effort of white people:
Some white people know that to become anti-racists, they must begin to listen to and review the history of racism in their country.
Some people describe the overtly racist behavior as the tip of the iceberg-calling people racists or threatening others on the grounds of race.
Then there is a part of the iceberg. If they don’t see it, they will not be easily seen by people. This includes a series of subtle but insidious attitudes, behaviors and policies.
Including minor aggression. They are short and common verbal, behavioral or environmental insults, [psychologist Beverly Tatum] Said.
This aggression includes denying that he ever owned a slave, claiming that all lives are important, and claiming that he is colorblind.
above not always Princeton was interested; but Timothy was there at a conspicuous time.
The school is performing every RCI, “A multi-year analysis of its relationship with slavery, the’continued racist legacy’ since its establishment in 1812, and the need for’confession and repentance’.”
After the tragedy The death of George FreudAccording to reports, the agency “begins to focus on race, gender, and career, including’social justice’ and’major reform of national police methods’.”
Therefore, the young man and his peers were told to receive training in August last year.
“We were given instructional readings and videos, and were told there was only one possible response,” he said recall“In other words, we are told what to think. I think this is indoctrination.”
American Youth Foundation The material was allegedly obtained.
Three independent Zoom groups have been established:
- A “pure white space” that “responds to our white people and our way of socializing in a way that does not harm our colleagues and students of color.”
- One group is “only open to students who identify as black, Aboriginal, or people of color,”
- A comprehensive group for people who are “uncomfortable with either situation.”
In the video, a leader waxes in a white-only space:
“People may be curious,’Why do I only want to talk to white people about race? So, I can tell you some of my own experiences in white party caucus meetings. That is to say, it creates a space where we can really solve our own problems. White issues and how we socialize in a way that does not harm our colleagues and students of color.”
The person in charge of the BIPOC (Black, Aboriginal, and Colored) space only pointed out that it allows non-whites to “just get together and talk about each other’s experiences.”
Somewhere in the enlightenment, students and faculty members were also sent “Report of the Anti-Racism Working Group. “
From the file:
White and white voters must be provided with opportunities to deepen their understanding of white privileges and white supremacy in their personal lives and seminaries, and their responsibility to eliminate such privileges.
Timothy attended the first class of training, but he quickly refused to participate further.
he petition Email it to Craig Barnes, the principal of the school, for a waiver.
Courtesy of request:
“As followers of Jesus, we don’t have to treat each other differently because of race. Don’t we remember that in Christ, these distinctions no longer exist? Or when the apostle wrote, “In Christ, there are no Jews and Greeks, no Slaves have no freedom, “What does he mean? The problem of racial injustice is about to emerge. But separating us from each other is not the way to correct mistakes.”
with:
“[T]These trainings pose a serious threat to freedom of thought, so much so that we seem to be indoctrinated. For every question about race, we only get one possible answer. There is only one race in our student group that must undergo any learning, growth or change. The identity of a group of people is condemned as something that needs to be “dismantled”, even “in the individual In life”, and [white people] They were told unequivocally that their identity should be worthy of repentance. “
At first, he was rejected.
However, with the assistance of the non-profit Academic Freedom League that supported the First Amendment, Princeton professor Robert George, and freedom of speech lawyer Samantha Harris, he appealed:
“[T]The training I object to violates the academic freedom statement made by PTS. I relied on this statement when accepting admission, and I believe it represents a legally enforceable clause of the contractual relationship between PTS and me. “
These schools manual Make things clear:
The seminary encourages frank and frank discussion of issues in social and church debate… It condemns efforts to suppress or ridicule opinions that are contrary to their own. Any form of communication that violates these principles will be disciplined by the seminary.
Finally, Timothy was allowed to give up training.
As part of the transaction, he read Ibram Kendi’s How to be an anti-racist And other anti-racism works.
In addition, he explained that he wrote an article that “emphasizes how I apply these lessons…to my own work and ministry, while still upholding my cherished values and beliefs.”
Nowadays, anti-racism is all the rage—not only in companies and universities, but even in seminaries.
If this trend continues, it is reasonable that the American church will gradually participate.
This year, Princeton released Princeton Theological Seminary and Slavery: A Journey of Repentance and Repentance.
From the report:
Whites are a form of structural evil embedded by whites, and they have no choice but still benefit from the system. … Repentance and atonement must be made for participating in the white structure and the moral trauma and suffering that white people have produced and continue to produce in the seminary community.
Who knows what the future holds?
Whatever it is, it will definitely be different from the past.
