DOther writers Maxime Biller Wrote a new short story “Wrong Greetings” about a young, unstable writer named Erck Dessauer who was afraid of being frustrated by another well-known writer named Hans Ulrich Barsilay. Erck thinks he deserves the success, he wants to go to the places where Barsilay already exists, restaurants, women, special districts. There are many signs that Dessau has imagined this competition between him and star Basile. Also because Dessauer really only knows one feeling-being misunderstood. And only this extremely sweet feeling gave him support and size. Dessauer yelled at this.
On the other hand, Barsilay is a dazzling and fanatical Jewish silverback from the Mitte province of Berlin. He wrote an autobiographical best-selling book “My People”, which is equivalent to the catharsis of a nervous breakdown while visiting Auschwitz. But it was apparently invented by Basile, he had never been in Poland. What Dessauer discovered. And publicly denies Basilei and prevents him from stealing the show.
Because Dessauer himself is writing his breakthrough book: the historical portrait of Naftali Frenkel, the inventor of the Gulag system. In this book, he tried to provide final evidence that the Communist Party created the murder method subsequently established by the National Socialists: this was a stumbling block that sparked controversy among historians 35 years ago. Erck Dessauer was cheered.
So one of the characters in Maxime Biller’s new novel is a Jewish intellectual, and Biller made him a descendant of Heine. The other is the defender Ernst Noltes-he is the son of the Leipzig professor of the East German functional elite, who committed suicide after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Both characters are looking for success in discourse. The way Biller arranged this duel only happened in Dessauer’s mind and provided a lot of allusions. You have almost no problems to recognize our current reflections. The gift of historical political debate about the uniqueness of the Holocaust, cheesy memorial literature like “Stra”, Beidou system And the “criticism of Israel” and the fascination with totalitarianism as an intellectual movement both on the left and on the right.
However, compressing the content of this short story in this way already means reducing it to a formula, which can then be applied again to real discourses about guilt and memory, interpretative sovereignty, and the right to speak and freedom of speech. This book is forever The ground alluded to these. As if Biller had commented on this novel. But it is literature, and it follows its own laws of dress, veil, distortion, and sharpening. This is why it is not so easy, even if it might be read this way.
