So, according to a new survey by Rightmove, when looking for a new home, pet-friendliness has jumped to the top of the renters’ wish list.

Tim Bannister, head of real estate data at Rightmove, said: “The increase in pet ownership during the lock-up period has been fully demonstrated, and we see this translate into the rental market.”
“Becoming a pet owner is a long-term commitment, so what is really worth considering is the impact this may have on the rental market in the future. This sends a signal to landlords that if they consider allowing well-behaved pets then it may be more important. Potential tenants are open.”
The government supports the right of tenants to keep pets. Last year, it announced that it would rewrite the standard lease agreement in the UK, including allowing furry friends to stay at home.
However, experts warn that if there is no legislation, many landlords will only continue to use pet-free agreements.
