TonIn France, lying idly on the beach is outdated. According to a survey conducted by the public opinion research organization Ifop, only 19% of women are “naked” in the sun. The results were announced on the International Nude Photo Day on August 26.
Young women under the age of 25 are particularly worried that they are staring without a bikini top, or that they are victims of physical or sexual violence. Every second interviewee cited fear of harassment as a reason not to take nude photos. 46% of people expressed concern about finding their photos on the Internet.
François Krauss, research director at Ifop, said: “By not showing their upper body, these young women seem to have internalized the risks faced by those who try to get rid of the modesty rules imposed on women in public places.”
The Parisian newspaper quoted a retired teacher as saying that he was annoyed by the frustration of the younger generation. “We, the elders, strive to provide women with all options: abortion, taking birth control pills, working without permission from men, including the right to show off our bodies like gentlemen,” she said.
