The young man, whose age has not yet been disclosed, fled a health center, where he climbed through a window and obtained the results of a Covid test suitable for flying. The police were notified.
He was intercepted when he tried to board a plane to the UK after returning home early by buying a new ticket.
He is currently quarantined in a hotel in Tenerife for 10 days.
The police said that they determined that the young man was deliberately trying to avoid self-isolation after he found that he was positive for the coronavirus in an antigen test.
The airport stop occurred last week, but it has just been made public.
It is not clear whether the boy’s relatives stayed in Tenerife or flew home.
A spokesperson for the Spanish National Police in Santa Cruz, the island’s capital, confirmed: “The National Police found a British minor with his father and grandfather as he tried to return to the UK after he tested positive for the Covid antigen.
“He was on vacation in southern Tenerife and then went to the health center for an examination. When he was told that he tested positive, he jumped through a window and fled the center to prevent health officials from adopting standard procedures in these situations .
“The local airport authority was informed and established surveillance during an operation involving the closure and monitoring of airport entrances.
“Once this young man was picked up outside the airport, he was forced to quarantine and was told that he must stay in a room in the hotel where he was staying for 10 days.
“Health and court officials and prosecutors have been informed of the situation.”
It was unclear on Tuesday whether the British would face a fine for his actions.
The Canary Islands registered 141 new coronavirus cases on Monday, including 5 deaths. Tenerife has the most people with 84 people, followed by Gran Canaria with 38 people, and Lanzarote with 11 people.
