US President Joe Biden slammed the Supreme Court’s refusal to block a Texas law banning abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, warning that it might cause “unconstitutional chaos.”
Biden said in a statement: “The Supreme Court’s overnight ruling is an unprecedented violation of women’s constitutional rights in Roe v. Wade, which has become the country’s law for nearly 50 years.”
Roe v. Wade is a landmark case of the Supreme Court in 1973, which embodies women’s right to abortion in the United States.
Biden said:
This (Texas) law is so extreme that it does not even allow exceptions in cases of rape or incest.
The Democratic president specifically targeted the provisions of the bill passed by Republicans in Texas that allow the public to sue the doctor who performed the abortion or anyone who assisted the abortion.
“By allowing a law to take effect, ordinary citizens of Texas have the right to sue health care providers, family members who support a woman to exercise her right of choice in six weeks, and even friends who drive her to a hospital or clinic, which is unconstitutional. The chaos and empowered self-styled law enforcers have a devastating impact,” Biden said.

“Complete strangers will now have the right to participate in the most intimate and personal health decisions women face,” he said.
Biden said he is launching “a government-wide effort” to “see what measures the federal government can take to ensure that women in Texas have access to safe and legal abortion services.”
