Organizers of Hong Kong’s Tiananmen Square night vigil ignore police investigation

The request includes the personal details of all members since its establishment in 1989, all meeting minutes, financial records, and any exchanges with other non-governmental organizations advocating democracy and human rights in China.

On Tuesday, the deadline for the request, the alliance members submitted a letter explaining their refusal to cooperate.

“We will respond, saying that we feel that your request has no legal basis, so we will just ignore you,” barrister and coalition member Zhou Hengdong told AFP station on the way to the police.

One of the directors of the alliance, Xu Hanguang, also filed a judicial review with the court, saying that the police’s request for information is illegal.

“The commissioner… did not explain why he has reason to believe that the alliance is a foreign agent, thereby preventing the alliance from making any specific rebuttals or clarifications,” Xu argued in his application.

“This violates the rules of natural justice.”
