Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian said in a statement on Friday that China will punish those on the list and prevent them from entering the mainland and its Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions.

The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan warned China that Taiwan is a democratic society ruled by law and is not ruled by Beijing.

“We do not accept intimidation and threats from authoritarian and authoritarian areas,” the committee said, adding that it will “take necessary countermeasures to maintain the safety and well-being of the people.”

In a Twitter post on Saturday, Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Joseph Wu wrote: “After being blacklisted by #CCP and sanctioned for life, I received numerous congratulatory letters,” referring to the Chinese Communist Party.

“Many people are jealous because they are not recognized; some people ask where they can apply. In order to obtain a rare honor, I will continue to fight for #台灣的freedom and democracy.”

China considers Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen to be a separatist determined to declare formal independence. She said that Taiwan is already an independent country and its official name is the Republic of China.
