Ember Mug 2 Metallic Review – No need to use this temperature-controlled self-heating cup to heat my cold coffee in the microwave

Ember Temperature Control Smart Mug 2 Review Rating

Generalize

An app-controlled, battery-powered smart mug priced at 130 pounds may seem ridiculous, but I like it. It really saves me the time to reheat the coffee I forgot on a regular basis, so it can justify the cost. This is also a technological product that can be the perfect Christmas gift next month.

advantage

  • Reliably keep your drink warm without having to remember to put it on the coaster
  • A 90-minute battery should be enough for most people
  • Metallic copper looks great

Ember has been around for several years and is the first and only temperature-controlled cup in the world.

I have been reading good things about them, but the relatively high prices always make me unwilling to promise.

I am a little addicted to coffee and drink too much, but I have been busy with work in the past year. I often find myself forgetting my coffee and having the unpleasant experience of drinking cold coffee unconsciously.

I finally got Ember now, this is their latest Mug 2, beautiful copper color, but is it worth the money?

The difference between Ember Mug 2 and Ember Mug 1

The biggest difference from Ember Mug 2 is that the battery life has been greatly increased from 60 minutes to 90 minutes.

It seems that the charging coaster has also been redesigned and is slightly smaller.

Then, the new series also includes the metallic color series that I have been using.

Metallic design and taste

The cup itself is in copper color and a

Since this is battery powered, your bottom is thicker than ordinary cups, but it is not large for the entire cup.

One of my concerns about Ember is that compared to porcelain, metal materials have an unpleasant taste or even a metallic taste. Tapping the side of the cup will make a metallic sound instead of metallic plastic or porcelain. However, the overall drinking experience is the same as that of a regular coffee cup.

application

Surprisingly and ridiculously, the cup has a dedicated application. When I first connected, I even had to update the firmware.

Of course there is no need to use the app, but if you want to set the temperature for your drink, it’s worth it.

The reviews on the app itself are terrible, and I can confirm that the experience is not pleasant. The cup is often disconnected and I cannot switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius. However, this is not a big problem. The default temperature of coffee is set. I think most people need to set it once, and then it won’t bother you anymore.

Performance/battery

When I first received the cup, I never really thought about battery life, I just assumed it could keep my coffee warm for a long time. In hindsight, this is a bad assumption because heating requires a lot of energy.

The Ember Mug 2 has a rated battery life of 90 minutes. Depending on your drinking style, this should be more than enough. However, in the morning I use a filter with a thermos pot and about one liter of coffee.

I usually finish my first cup of coffee quickly, but in the end, caffeine starts to work, my work efficiency improves, and I will inevitably be distracted by work. This is when I usually drink a cold coffee halfway through. Then I was angry at having to trek all the way to the kitchen to heat up coffee in the microwave, wasting precious time in the most/only efficient time of my day. Ember eliminates this, so I like it.

However, since I usually take a few hours to complete my large kettle, if I don’t remember to put the cup back on the coaster, my battery will run out. Therefore, I adjusted my behavior and now put the coaster in front of me, so I put the cup there naturally.

I assume that I am not an ordinary user. If you drink a few cups of coffee in the morning, I want the battery to stay warm.

Ember mug prices and other options

The metallic Ember Mug² small mug is priced at 129.95 pounds, and the large mug is priced at 149.95 pounds.

Ember offers a full range of colors

The standard color of the small cup is 99.95 pounds, and the standard color of the large cup is 129.95 pounds.

Ember also produced a travel mug with a capacity of 355 ml, which can keep your drink at the correct temperature for 3 hours, at a price of £179.95.

There is really no direct competition. The only similar option is that the cup itself is not heated but is heated by the coaster. I have tried a cup that can do this before, and I found them a bit rubbish. However, they are much cheaper:

POWERGIANT coffee cup heater – The rave reviews, the cup is not included, the price is less than £25, not as attractive as Ember

COSORI Coffee Mug and Mug Set – This seems to be the best alternative and comes with a cup designed to perform best with the heating plate.Although not very attractive, it costs £39.99

overall

Ember Mug 2 is definitely a luxury for people with first-world problems. It seems crazy to spend 130 pounds on an app-controlled, battery-powered coffee cup, but I like it.

For me, I can argue that the time I save by reheating the coffee in the microwave now can easily justify the cost of Ember next year.

For those who love technology but already have everything, as well as any busy professionals who have the bad habit of forgetting their own brewing, this kind of thing can be the perfect Christmas gift.
