review – I’ve given up on robots. After a few tries, they would get stuck in the corners, I couldn’t use their corresponding app, and they just didn’t clean up very well. Plus, their small dust bins are no match for my pup’s dog hair. However, I have been using my Roborock Stick Vacuum Cleaner Every day for a year. Design and Features

set up

Getting the Roborock Q7 Max+ to run requires a bit of lighting setup. Fortunately, it’s well designed and easy to figure out. A small screwdriver is attached to the dock, and six small screws are already partially screwed in. You just screw them in and connect the power cord. Then charge the vacuum cleaner if it is not already fully charged.

You also need to download the app. Technically, you can use the button on it to start the vacuum, or send it home, spot clean it, or lock it. I’ve only used the actual button once or twice. In most cases, the app is the easiest to use, and it includes several useful features.

To use the mopping feature, you need a custom mop pad.Our sample vacuums do not include mop pads, but you can Roborock website for $16.99.

Performance

After downloading the app, you can let it start drawing your floors. The app allows you to place obstacles on the map, which is helpful if you have a kid who doesn’t want his ropes off the floor. It’s also helpful if you want to designate an area as quiet.

I really like the pinning feature, which lets you pinpoint an area, send the vacuum there, and then spot clean that area. For example, I use it when we don’t have time to clean the entire floor before a post-lunch conference call but are sure we just want to clean the kitchen. Or, if your kids or dogs are making a mess in just one area of the house, you can get the vacuum exactly where you need it, when you need it.

You can also easily view the cleaning area covered, current battery level and cleaning time from the app.

In the app, you can also adjust the Roborock Q7 Max+’s robot voice (language and volume) or control the vacuum cleaner remotely. It defaults to a setting with automatic carpet lift, so you can get more suction on the carpet/carpet, but you can turn it off if you want.

Plus, you can choose the water flow for mopping and the suction power from quiet to balanced to turbocharged. Each voice is a little louder. We found the balance to provide a nice clean and not too loud (though you might want to switch to mute or off if you’re in the same room on a Zoom call).

I’m a light sleeper, so even quiet mode is too much for me overnight. In fact, Mason and my husband sleep soundly in any setting. My youngest son and I cannot sleep under any circumstances.

Plus, at the end of each cleaning, it empties itself into a vacuum bag.It comes with an extra vacuum bag and extra bags are available on their website $31.99 for 6 or $18.99 for 3. After 11 days of cleaning (so far) 1-2 times a day, we are still using the first one. It says a vacuum bag can last up to 7 weeks, I literally laughed at the idea…but we’ll find out. I’ll share a follow-up when we better understand how long litter boxes last in a family of four with two teens and two dogs.

The auto-emptying feature of the Roborock Q7 Max+ makes the vacuum essentially self-sufficient, unlike our need to constantly empty the dust bin like other vacuums. I’m really grateful for the two shedding dogs! However, when it empties itself, it’s pretty loud for brief bursts. So if you’re going to run it while you’re asleep, I’d caution against putting the dock near your bedroom. Again, I wouldn’t put it near your office if you’re going to run the dock during the workday.

There’s a feature that lets you turn off auto-emptying every time you dock. So technically you can turn off auto-empty, run a scheduled clean during your work/sleep time, and then click to empty it when you can. But my problem is that I will forget. A better option is to schedule the emptying time at a time when brief loud noises are not an issue.

As for cleaning, the Roborock Q7 Max+ does an excellent job. This is critical. In fact, I don’t think my floors have ever been this clean, especially since we had two dogs. Roborock never gets stuck, making it far superior to other robots we have. Once it got stuck in the bathroom (we opened the window and the door was closed) it gave us a notification that rescue was needed.

Once our phone line got stuck in a vacuum (our fault!) and once a dead piece of a plant got stuck. Both times our phone got the notification and it was super easy to delete. Unlike past vacuums, we didn’t have to try to rip the cords/plants off because the rollers are in two parts, making it easy to pop and remove anything that got stuck.

what do I like

  • excellent cleaning job
  • Many features in the app
  • Thoughtful Design

what would i change

  • Quieter cleaning mode
  • Option to schedule trash bin emptying

final thoughts

The Roborock Q7 Max+ is an excellent robot vacuum. If you gave up on previous makes/models because of design flaws, this one might change your mind like I did. Also, check out The Gadgeteer’s other Roborock Reviews.
