The border conflict with Poland is not a NATO case

SecondFirst, only neighboring countries talked about Alexander Lukashenko’s use of immigrants “as weapons” and “hybrid wars”.At the same time, almost all top politicians in Europe speak this way, no matter which party: from Robert Habek to Joseph Borrell and Ursula von Delane Until Charles Michel. The demands of the Baltic and Polish politicians for NATO to participate are not far away. Donald Tusk, the leader of the Polish opposition, also called after this week: Tusk said that now is the time for consultations under Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty. This is the preliminary stage of the announcement of the alliance under Article 5. The excitement of running on the eastern border of Poland is mixed linguistically and spiritually.

The people who marched by the Minsk regime are undoubtedly part of a cynical blackmail attempt. In desperation, they were caught between officials in the green border no-man’s land, like hostages, no longer in control of their own destiny. But what about weapons that cause serious damage and kill people? The pseudo tourists from Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan are certainly not. There is also no reliable evidence that terrorists infiltrate in this way. Everything else is propaganda by the Polish official media and should not be used.

Becoming a negotiating partner is everything

As for mixed warfare, yes, Lukashenko is indeed flooding the neighbors with immigrants. He himself admitted publicly. But he is not interested in conquering territory, as Russia did in Crimea in 2014: with “green men” who are actually elite soldiers. The regime transports thousands of migrants to the border without threatening the “regional integrity, political independence or security” of neighboring countries-this will be a prerequisite for the activation of Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty. They are certainly not “armed attacks” on NATO member states and may trigger Article 5. Lukashenko defended the sanctions and wanted to be recognized as a negotiating partner; that’s it.

The ruler of Minsk managed to create such an exciting fact, more about his neighbor than about himself. They did not respond to the trauma of 2015: there were tens of thousands of people every day-now hundreds of people are enough to make one European Union 450 million people panic. For many years, 27 member states have been postponing necessary reforms to asylum laws. Now there is a situation where every country does what it thinks is right. Frontex, the border protection agency, is headquartered in Warsaw, but was not questioned. Brussels disputes whether the fence and the fence should be paid from the common budget.
