In a statement on SaturdayUNICEF UNICEF stated that the Uganda Ministry of Health has received 1,904,140 doses of vaccine.
“The first donation of vaccines funded by Canada to Uganda is an important moment and a concrete example of global solidarity actions,” said Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, Minister of Health of Uganda.
She added: “We especially want to thank the Canadian government for providing timely and important support to COVAX to make this possible.”
The Canadian Department of Global Affairs (GAC) confirmed that this is Canada’s first donation to Uganda through the COVAX facility.
“Canada is committed to taking a comprehensive and global response to this epidemic. We are working to ensure that all countries in the world have access to the COVID-19 vaccine,” GAC spokesperson Jason Kung told Global News in an email statement.
