Poland has detained 100 immigrants at the border, the Ministry of Defense announced

The Polish Ministry of Defense said on Thursday that the Polish army has detained about 100 migrants who tried to cross the border from Belarus at night.

The ministry said on Twitter that the Belarusian army first conducted reconnaissance and “probably” destroyed the barbed wire at the border.

“The Belarusians then forced the immigrants to throw stones at the Polish soldiers to distract them. The attempt to cross the border occurred several hundred meters away,” it said.

“About 100 immigrants were detained,” it said, adding that the incident occurred near the village of Dubicze Cerkiewne.

Video clips released by the Ministry of National Defense showed Polish soldiers squatting in the woods beside a barbed wire fence surrounding a large group of people at night.

It is estimated that thousands of migrants are near the border of the European Union on the Belarusian side, hoping to cross the border.

The EU accuses Belarus of artificially designing this crisis by encouraging immigrants to come to the country with the promise of easy entry into the EU.

Belarus denied this and asked Poland to accept these immigrants.
