Young Austrian wanted to set the police on fire due to corona frustration

A sort ofWe are dissatisfied with the corona control in Austria. Three young people from Linz said they wanted to carry out arson attacks on the police. As the police in Upper Austria reported on Friday, two 16-year-olds and a 20-year-old admitted that they set fire to a patrol car in mid-November. The trio also reported that they planned to lure a policeman into ambush in a provocative manner, pour it with gasoline and set it on fire.

As a motivation, they told investigators that they regarded law enforcement officials as opponents due to the control of Covid measures by law enforcement officials. “We assume that they really wanted to do this, but they did not succeed. That is why they restricted themselves to police cars,” said a police spokesperson for the German News Agency.

Austria has imposed far-reaching restrictions on people who have not been vaccinated for two weeks. Hundreds of additional officials were deployed to ensure compliance. Upper Austria is the federal state with the lowest vaccination rate and one of the states with the highest number of infections in the Alps.
