Review – I’m Gadgeteer, which means I love technology – right? right. But this doesn’t mean that I don’t like analog devices either. My favorite categories of analog devices are stationery, pens, periodicals, and periodicals covers. Today, my sister Amy and I will join forces to show you our latest obsession with the Hobonichi Weeks Mega planner from Japan, especially the Galen Leather Hobonichi Weeks Mega cover. Let’s check it. Be sure to watch the full video review linked below!
What is it?
Galen Leather is a company from Turkey that produces a variety of leather products-the most famous is the cover of the journal. They sent me two of their leather Hobonichi Weeks Mega magazine covers for review. They sent a leather Hobonichi Weeks Mega magazine folio cover and a Hobonichi Weeks Mega magazine zipper cover.
Design and features
Hobonichi Weeks Mega Journal Folio Cover

The cover of Galen Leather Hobonichi Weeks Mega diary is available in 19 colors! The folio cover sent to me for review is gray.
Galen uses 100% vegetable tanned cow leather and hand-stitched with waxed polyamide thread.

The leather finish on this cover has a smooth, almost smooth feel. You will notice that the leather looks rustic/distressed. If you don’t like scratches and scuffs, this may not be the type of leather you like or admire. I like how Galen’s cover develops personality when used.

The Hobonichi Weeks Mega folio cover provides plenty of storage space inside. On the left, you will find leather and elastic pen loops, which can be expanded to accommodate most pens and pens. There are also a pile of pockets, seven to be precise, and eight if you add the secretarial pockets that are open on both sides.
On the right side of the cover, you will find two vertical pockets and a zippered pocket. Regarding the zipper pocket, the zipper opens from bottom to top, which seems a bit strange to me, because when the zipper is closed, the leather tag hangs under the bottom edge of the lid.

The folio in your hand is very comfortable and does not feel too bulky.

The above view makes the cover look very thin, which can be a bit deceptive.

Hobonichi Weeks Mega fits perfectly into any vertical slit pocket on the right side of the cover. If your Hobonichi is in a transparent cover, it can even fit well.

Now, if we look at the side view, it looks and feels bulkier. By default, the lid does not have any type of snaps or closures. For an extra $12, you can buy this kind of protective cover with elastic bands, such as Green Travel. This may or may not be important to you.
Hobonichi Weeks Mega Magazine Zip Cover

Amy received a zippered lid in 6 different colors. She received the zipper cover of the brown crazy horse. No, it is not made of horse hide. Like the folio cover, it is made of 100% vegetable tanned cowhide and hand-sewn with waxed polyamide thread.

The front appearance of this gorgeous cover is simple, but on the back, you will find a pocket with an open top and a Galen leather logo printed on the bottom.

Unlike my complaint about the zipper orientation, the zipper of the zippered lid opens from the top and goes around the bottom diagonally.

Galen uses YKK zippers, which can be opened easily and smoothly without jamming or jamming.

The inside of the Hobonichi Weeks Mega zipper cover looks very much like a wallet, because there is a mesh ID pocket at the bottom with 7 credit card-sized slots on it. Behind the credit card slot panel is a vertical pocket.

In the center/spine of the cover is a leather pen ring, which is a good location.
On the right side of the cover, there is a large secretary pocket and a vertical pocket at the back.

Here, we see the Hobonichi Weeks Mega planner inserted into the Galen zipper cover. Even if you use a transparent plastic cover on the schedule, it will fit perfectly.
