There are models in everything from tiny “find the keyhole” clip lights to giant handheld spotlights that are weatherproof and can be thrown into caves, into a truck bed with other equipment, or used to signal in rivers without will cause harm. The ThruNite TC15 v3 is the unit I’m reviewing today, and while it won’t be used to find drowning victims at sea 2000 yards away, it’s still impressive for a light that rivals your multitool in weight and size Profound, but less than a good dinner.

Design and Features
ThruNite TC15 V3 is a small single switch flashlight Charge externally via a standard USB-A adapter. It is black and measures 4.75 inches long and 0.875 inches wide. The total weight with the battery and lanyard installed is 4.85 ounces (137 grams), which is about half the weight of the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The single button is easy to find its place under the thumb of your hand. Hold it down to cycle through power levels of Firefly, Low, Medium, High and Turbo.
The LED in the button will glow red to let you know if the battery has dropped below 30%. One press turns the light off, another press turns it back on at the same level. You have to work hard to get into firefly or turbo mode. (Explain the details in the flyer.) Mostly, it’s just a great little light that gives you just the right amount of light when and where you need it.
The spring steel clips can be removed, but not easily. It’s bi-directional, which means you can stow the lens up or down without removing it. The nylon belt case has a 3″ sleeve for even the largest military belts and a plastic D-ring that can be attached via a belt clip or carabiner.
Performance
The TC15 V3 is a small, lightweight, and very portable flashlight for a variety of use cases. Using spring steel clips or the included nylon wrist lanyard, it’s easy to keep it where you need it in the darkest of times. While it will give you light at great distances, it won’t offer a wide field of view due to its size. But for general search, wayfinding or all-around use, it’s a versatile and powerful addition to your toolkit. Small enough to fit in your vehicle console, overnight bag or everyday carry bag, you won’t notice it’s there until you need it, and then you’ll be very happy.

final thoughts
The ThruNite TC15 V3 is a small, lightweight, waterproof flashlight that can easily be taken anywhere and provides plenty of light in almost any situation. It doesn’t have a “fuel gauge” to let you know how much charge it has left (unless it’s below 30 percent), but it can easily be charged from the same charger you use for your phone. Whether you have an old iPhone or a new advanced device, you can use the included cable to charge from a USB-A charger or connect your phone’s USB-C cable to the light. (If you’re using an iPhone 11 or later, you’ll need a USB-C to USB-C charging cable. It’s standard on newer iPads and many newer Android phones.) Either way, You are all electrified to light up the dark places in your life for another day.
