Rhode Island Kitchen last update (2022)

Recently, I reviewed the makeover of our Rhode Island house and took a short walk down memory lane. We bought it 5 years ago and it feels like a lifetime ago. The kitchen was the first project we tackled in that house it has has undergone several evolutions since then. We decided to give it a few updates and some updates, including paint, lighting, refinishing the countertops (we still need to do the island) and some new cutlery and cutlery. We paid a professional paint company to paint the cabinets and wow it made such a huge difference. They look brand new and I definitely feel they are worth the investment.

I’m impressed with the quality of Clare Paint and I love that it’s a brand owned by black women, GREENGUARD Gold certified and zero VOC. Every paint color I choose from Clare is amazing (love the beige in our Vermont kitchen and living room). We also use Timeless, their milky white, to paint the walls in houses in RI and Vermont. In the RI kitchen, we decided to use Current Mood, which is very similar to our old paint color, but with a greenish tinge. The shades do change throughout the day, depending on how bright the sun is outside.

I love how the space fits together and I think I can finally stop messing with it now. I’ve linked to everything in the space below for easy reference. I’ll be sharing updates I’ve made to the living room and dining room soon too! Let me know in the comments if you have any follow-up questions.

Rhode Island Kitchen Update

New cabinets and wall paint

We decided to have a professional paint company redo our cabinets while we were out and wow what an incredible difference. It’s an investment, but it looks like we do have brand new cabinets and I think it will increase their lifespan over time. They removed all cabinet doors, painted front and back, and repainted all trim and woodwork on the actual cabinets. The paint company recommends that we use decorative paint as it is more durable for high traffic areas like kitchen cabinets. Cabinets are Clare’s Current Mood trim paint and walls are painted Timeless (wall paint).

New tile backsplash

Most of you have probably seen this update because it’s not “new”, but I haven’t blogged about it yet. We decided to put in a tile backsplash for the summer of my pregnancy and I love the look of it. We used Makoto Tiles from Bedrosians Tile Craig did the project himself. Took about a day. The backsplash was plastered before we tiled it, as were all the walls in the kitchen. We’ve sanded the walls and repainted them since then, but the plaster gives it a textured look.

New plates and cutlery

I mentioned Casafina I came across this brand a few times on the blog when I was in Vermont looking for dishes for our kitchen. The quality is very good and I am so happy with them that I decided to replace our old dishes with RI Casafina Pacifica line. My favorite is the pasta bowl.I also got New cutlery from JA Henckels This is by far the best silverware I have owned.

recessed lighting

You may remember the lighting fixtures we used earlier, they were hanging pendant lights. I love them a lot, but over time I’ve realized they’re not practical for the kitchen. The ropes they hang on will collect dust and look dirty and there is no way to clean them.i decided to get recessed light I really like the ones i found from CB2. Honestly, you can’t beat them either, lighting can get so expensive.

windsor bar stool

These Windsor bar stools aren’t a “new” addition, but I don’t think I’m officially sharing those here either. We used to have metal bar stools in the kitchen and I liked the look but they were super heavy so we decided to make them outdoor stools.I want the space to feel more comfortable and warm, and These bar stools from Target Just the right additions and the right price. I think the quality is fair. We had to add some glue to it, but it’s no big deal and has fixed the issue. These are restocked all the time, so add your email to be notified if you’d like to buy some yourself. I might add some chair cushions this summer, otherwise these are comfortable to sit on.We have dining chair Too.
