Climate College Dean Receives Environmental Champion Award

Maureen Remo, co-founding dean of the Columbia Climate Institute and director of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, recently received the Environmental Champion Award from New York State Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick.
On Earth Day, April 22, 2022, she received the award at a ceremony at Louis Engel Waterfront Park in Ossining, New York.The award recognizes the observatory’s Discoveries that make history in earth and environmental science, and through Hudson River Field Stationa center for scientific research and environmental education.
“We are fortunate to have a world-class research facility in the Hudson Valley, the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory,” Senator Reichlin-Melnick said. “Their Hudson River Stadium station hosts hundreds of local students and community members, where they understand our environment and can take action to make our community safer.”
“I accept this honor on behalf of all my colleagues at Lamont-Doherty,” Professor Raymo said in his remarks at the event. “We hope to deepen our connection with the local community and continue to contribute to environmental health and education in the region and beyond.”
The purpose of the Environmental Champion Awards is to recognize and celebrate the work done to make New York State’s Hudson Valley and our planet a healthier, cleaner, greener and more sustainable place to live. Raymo is one of nine recipients of this year’s award.
