Weapons recovered from tents of camp residents near 13th Ave S and S Lane (Seattle Police Department)
Police are investigating a man who was stabbed and shot in the Chinatown International District (CID) earlier this month.
At 10:02 a.m. on April 11, multiple 911 callers reported that a man opened fire near 13th Avenue South and South Lane Street. The gunman had fled by the time police arrived, but officers found a man with stab wounds to his arms and torso. 45-year-old man taken to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition
State of health.
From eyewitness information, officials learned the following:
The stabbing victim and a woman lived in tents at a camp near 13th Avenue South and South Lane Streets. The pair did not get on well with another camp resident – the stabbing suspect – described as a Hispanic woman in her 20s wearing a teal hat, camouflage jacket and dark leggings. The woman stabbed the victim and fled up the Lane Street stairs to South 12th Avenue.
After the stabbing, someone retrieved a rifle from the victim’s tent. A black man with dreadlocks was seen shooting up the stairs behind the suspect.
Witnesses also reported seeing the gun being put back into the victim’s tent and the shooter fleeing.
The 39-year-old woman who lived with the stabbing victim, who did not allow police to search the tent for weapons, repeatedly tried to enter the tent herself. When officers tried to arrest the woman for obstruction, she bit one officer’s leg and scratched the other. She was arrested for third-degree assault and placed in the King County Jail.
Police issued a search warrant inside the tent where the stabbing victim and the bite suspect lived, and seized three rifles and multiple rounds of ammunition.
As police began to leave the scene, one of the first responders to provide first aid to the stabbing victim discovered her medical kit had been stolen. Video from inside the car shows that the same person who fired the gun also stole a medical kit that was placed near the patrol car. The kit contains hundreds of dollars worth of medical supplies and police equipment.
Police searched the area for the stabbing suspect and the shooting/theft suspect, but none were found.
Police continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information about stabbings, shootings or theft should call the Violent Crime Report Line at 206-233-5000.
