Loli Matsukawa
On April 29, the Japanese government announced that the former KING 5 anchor Matsukawa Loli had been awarded the Order of Merit for her contribution to promoting friendly relations between Japan and the United States.
According to a press release, Matsukawa “has made a significant contribution to raising awareness of Japanese-American history through her reporting on the history of Japanese-American incarceration in the Northwest Territories during wartime and an Emmy-winning documentary. She Also provides unbiased, first-hand accounts of Japan after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Her work has greatly contributed to a broader understanding of Japan from multiple perspectives.”
Matsukawa co-founded the Washington Center for Japanese Culture and Community in 2003 and has been actively leading the organization’s activities for nearly 20 years.
