Passenger numbers are expected to increase by 190%
To date, Vietnam’s airports have served 40.7 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of 56.8%. CAAV forecasts that airports nationwide will serve about 87.8 million passengers this year, a 190 percent increase from last year.
The year-to-date figure includes 5 million foreign travelers, an increase of 844% over the same period. Vietnam lifted all restrictions on international flights on February 15.
On March 15, the government allowed citizens of 24 countries, including Japan, South Korea and some European economies, to enter quarantine-free and resume visa-free access. It has also lifted most other entry restrictions, such as medical declarations and Covid-19 testing.
Cargo throughput through Vietnam’s airports in the first six months of this year is estimated at 765,000 tons, up 30.6 percent from the same period in 2021. Full-year throughput in 2022 is expected to reach approximately 1.5 million tonnes, representing a year-on-year growth of 5% compared to 2021.
