review – With the widespread use of tracking devices, especially Apple’s AirTags, a new question arises about how we can integrate these trackers into our everyday items, such as wallet. Design and Features
Geometric Goods ‘Minimalist’ Leather AirTag Wallet is stylish and well made. The leather feels great in the hand and the overall construction is very good. The outer ridges of the purse and pocket are held together with thick, clean stitching. Running one finger along this stitch did feel some odd places where the thread got stuck, presumably at the end of the thread, but those were worn out after a few weeks of use.
There are two card pockets on the wallet. The larger top loading pocket has an integrated leather tab for pulling all cards out of the top and holds 3-6 cards. The front pocket can hold a card, two if thin, or a card and some folded cash.
The construction of the wallet is slightly wedge-shaped, with the thicker part where the card and AirTag on the “top” of the wallet overlap.
Two rivets hold the top of the wallet together and can be removed to access the interior AirTag compartment.
The front card slot of the wallet has a very small embossed Geometric Goods logo near the bottom. Overall, the design is a great fit for Apple’s leather MagSafe wallets and cases. I like the added sturdiness of the look of the rivets.
set up
Getting an AirTag into the secret compartment of a Geometric Goods “minimalist” leather AirTag wallet requires some quick and minor surgery. Just use a screwdriver to unscrew and remove the rivets. Opening the leather flap under the wallet’s pull tab reveals a small circular compartment into which the AirTag can fit. There was an extra rivet in there, which I needed almost immediately after dropping half of the rivet on the floor.
The compartment is large enough to accommodate the AirTag. The fit is comfortable but not tight. After that, simply fold the leather flap down onto the AirTag and re-attach the rivets and you’re all set.
The instructions that came with the Geometric Goods “Minimalist” Leather AirTag Wallet mention loosening the card slots by installing more cards than you normally carry and leaving them in the card slots for half a day. This stretches the leather slightly, making it easier to remove the card.
Performance
Just out the door, it’s worth mentioning that if you own a smartphone, there’s a good chance you’re using Apple’s AirTags, even if you have an Android phone. Apple includes the “Find My” app in iOS by default and has released the “Tracker Detect” app on the Google Play Store. While this wallet doesn’t have an AirTag, it’s only $29.99 for one or $99 for a 4-pack.
I will only talk very briefly about the performance of AirTags, because this is the wallet It can be accommodated instead of the tracker itself. I did a quick test of the AirTag in the Minimalist wallet, and the fact that the tracker was embedded in the leather compartment didn’t affect its broadcast area. I was able to find my wallet when I was hiding in the backyard. Getting too far from the AirTag sends a notification to my phone saying I forgot it. That part works just fine.
That being said, unless you’re forgetful or unlucky, the AirTag feature of the Geometric Goods “Minimalist” Leather AirTag Wallet is hardly ever used. Like insurance or a dash cam, it’s something you buy with the hope that you’ll never have to use it.
As a wallet, this veritable Minimalist is best for individuals who only need to carry around 4-5 cards and a few folded bills.it is absolutely no Perfect for those who carry a lot of cash, change, 6+ cards and a bunch of receipts. In fact, once the AirTag is in place, it is difficult to hold more than 5 cards until the inevitable leather stretch occurs.
I almost never carry cash except for an emergency $20 bill, but even then it’s hard to find a good place to store it. The front card slot seems like the best place, but even if the card slot is cut at an angle, putting cash all the way into the card slot is completely hidden and difficult to access. You must remove any card in the front slot and try to pinch the corner of the bill with your fingernail.or you can delete all A card in your wallet for more clearance for cash.
If it’s just a spare $20 you don’t need to grab, that’s one thing. But I just use this wallet for cards and choose to keep a wad of cash in a separate wallet or wallet.
The leather tag for taking cards out of the Geometric Goods “Minimalist” Leather AirTag Wallet is certainly handy. The top of the wallet can hold 2-5 cards, which is more than I need. Geometric Goods makes larger wallets that can hold more cards and cash, and they’re certainly worth checking out if you have more carry-on items.
