ingredients you need
This section explains how to choose the best toppings for BLT Chopped Salad, the role of each ingredient in the recipe, and substitution options. See recipe card below for measurements.
- lettuce – Romaine lettuce is a classic choice for any BLT, but butter lettuce or iceberg are also delicious options. Chop it up for salads.
- cherry tomatoes – Use mature and plump ones for the best look. You can also use grape tomatoes, or any tomato you like. Cut smaller tomatoes in half, or cut large tomatoes into smaller wedges.
- cooked bacon – you can cook it in a pan on the stove, but I prefer it Bacon in the oven, Air Fryer Baconeven Microwave Bacon Slice to reduce splatter! Be sure to dry with a paper towel so it doesn’t get greasy, then chop or crumble the salad. If you want to take a shortcut, you can use store-bought bacon bits, but freshly cooked center-cut bacon tastes better.
- avocado – The basic ingredients are bacon, lettuce and tomato, but I think adding ripe avocado makes the salad even better. You can dice it or slice it thinly.
- ranch dressing – I usually use mine Homemade Ranch Dressing, made from simple ingredients: mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, dried herbs, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, black pepper and milk of your choice. It only takes a few minutes to make, but to save time, feel free to use whatever store-bought variety you like. Check out more BLT salad dressing ideas below!
