After a fire engulfed the Covid-19 isolation ward of Al-Hussein Hospital, at least 36 people died in Nasiriyah, Iraq. According to a report by Al Jazeera. Health officials told the media that as many people are still missing and the ward can accommodate up to 60 patients, the death toll may rise. Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Kazimi declared a state of emergency in the area and the hospital manager resigned.
Tragedy ensued A similar fire broke out in April, A hospital in Baghdad caught fire after an oxygen cylinder exploded, killing 82 people and injuring at least 110 others. Protesters gathered outside Al-Nasiriya on Monday after reports that improper storage of oxygen cylinders reignited Monday’s fire.
