Someone recently asked the question, “What was your best book of the year?” at Jess’s New Online Community (you can sign up here) and before we knew it, the chat room was being bombarded with great reads from 2022. With so many great testimonials, we decided we needed to share the love on the blog. I always appreciate a good book recommendation because there’s nothing worse than trying to browse through a book that doesn’t quite fit or scrolling for hours trying to pick one from too many.
Reading offers a form of escape, comfort and quiet. On a cold winter day, there is nothing I love more than curling up on the couch with hot tea and a blanket and being transported to another world. So whether you’re an avid reader looking to pick up your first book of the new year, or you’ve fallen off the reading cart, one of your goals for 2023 is to read more. Look no further, today we’re sharing some of our own and some reader favorite books for 2022 that are sure to turn your pages in 2023.
The Best Books You’ll Read in 2022
malibu rises
malibu rises Definitely a favorite of many this year. Nestled on the California coast in Malibu, this makes for a great beach getaway during the cold, dark winter months. Taylor Jenkins Reid returns with this tale of a famous family’s epic party and the chaos that ensued when family secrets were leaked. I love the way Reed moves between various character perspectives and keeps things exciting with plot twists along the way. tomorrow, tomorrow, and tomorrow
Another obvious favorite among Jess’ readers is tomorrow, tomorrow, and tomorrow. Gabrielle Zevin’s novel is a love story unlike any you’ve ever read. Two friends team up to create a blockbuster video game, and with their newfound fame comes money, deceit and tragedy. While video games may not be your thing, this book has something for everyone, full of love, heart, wit, and sweetness.

Another top read for 2022 is black cake By Charmaine Wilkerson. Currently being adapted as a Hulu original, black cake The story of two siblings’ search for their mother’s secret past is mysteriously intertwined with her traditional Caribbean black cake recipe. Such a rich and delicious read, you don’t want to miss it!

I really like it book lover So will Emily Henry and many others in 2022. This novel rom-com is everything you want and need for a light-hearted read in the new year. It gives you all the great feel of a cheesy, unforgettable rom-com, but with great writing, wit and sweetness. A fun, sweet page turner to start your year off right!

cry at H Mart Michelle Zauner is a memoir that follows Zauner’s upbringing as a Korean-American and rock star, while also documenting her journey to find herself after losing her mother. This honest account is full of life and its many struggles and triumphs, and is relatable in so many ways.

i’m glad my mom died is yet another memoir from Jennette McCurdy — heartbreaking and hilarious, chronicling her life as a childhood star, the trauma that followed, her difficult relationship with her mother, and her How to get your life back. McCurdy read it himself, and this book is also highly recommended on audible!

The story is hilarious, smart and you’ll love the rich cast of characters.
