Mr. Javid said he felt uncomfortable and performed a lateral flow test. He added that he has been fully vaccinated and has mild symptoms.
He posted a video on Twitter in which he said: “I tested positive this morning Coronavirus disease. I am waiting for my PCR results, but luckily I have received the jab and the symptoms are very mild.
“If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, make sure you come forward.”
In the video, Mr. Javid urges anyone who has not received the Covid-19 vaccine to stand up and get the injection.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in our national vaccine promotion plan. They are indeed the best of its kind in the world,” he said.
“If you haven’t jab, please go out and get it as soon as possible.
“If everyone plays their part, then you are not only protecting yourself and your loved ones, but also protecting the NHS and helping to maintain our way of life.”
Mr. Javid achieved positive results after visiting a nursing home in London earlier this week.
The Minister of Health visited the Aashna House nursing home in Strethham on Tuesday, where he met with the nursing home manager Smita Bhatt and other executive teams and nursing staff. He also met residents when they were attending an event.
Mr. Hunter, currently chairman of the Health and Social Care Committee of the House of Commons, said the situation was “very serious.”
“The warning lights on the NHS dashboard are not flashing amber, but red,” he told the BBC Radio 4 Today program.
“The number of hospitalized patients with new coronary pneumonia doubles every two weeks. This means that by the end of August, we will welcome 10,000 Covid hospitalized patients, which is about 20 times higher than the same period last year. This is a very serious situation.
“I think entering September, we will almost certainly see the number of infections reach a new daily peak, exceeding the daily level of 68,000, which is the daily record for January.
“If they are still rising as the school returns, I think we will have to reconsider some very difficult decisions. Our performance in the next few weeks will make a substantial difference.”
