Martine Moise, the widow of the assassinated President Jovenel Moise of Haiti, returned to the Caribbean country on Saturday to attend his funeral. She was treated in a Miami hospital for injuries sustained in an attack on a private home on July 7.
When an assassin armed with an assault rifle rushed into his home on the hills above Port-au-Prince, Jovenel Moise was shot, leaving the country in a state of uncertainty and sparking a frantic investigation to determine the author of the plan.
The prime minister’s office tweeted a video showing Martin Mois returning to the Haiti’s capital Toussaint Louvidul International Airport on Saturday, wearing all black clothes, a bulletproof vest and a suspender on his right arm.
Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph greeted her.
The Prime Minister’s Office said: “The Prime Minister, Dr. Claude Joseph, welcomed the first lady Martina Moise to Haiti to attend her husband’s funeral.”
Martine Moise said on Twitter in Miami last week that she was still accepting the fact that her husband was killed and thanked “a group of guardian angels for helping me through this terrible time.”
Earlier on Saturday, the key international ambassadors and representative caucus urged “the formation of a mutually agreed and inclusive government”.
The organization stated: “For this reason, we strongly encourage the appointed Prime Minister Ariel Henry to continue the mission entrusted to him to form such a government.”
Henry, who was appointed prime minister shortly before Moyes was killed, has not yet been sworn in, and the country is led by Joseph.
