The temperature will remain above 31 degrees Celsius (87.8 degrees Fahrenheit) this week, and forecasters say the next few days may be the hottest days of the year.
Earlier, the British Meteorological Service issued the first “amber extreme heat warning.”
The warning is similar to the warning issued when heavy rain or snow is forecast, covering most of Wales, all areas of southwest England, and parts of southern and central England, and will continue until Thursday.
Forecasters warn people to stay away from the sun in the afternoon, draw curtains to keep the living room cool, avoid direct sunlight and drink water.
Public Health England (PHE) also issued a high temperature health alert, warning the public to take measures to keep cool and pay attention to vulnerable groups.
Weather Bureau forecaster Marco Petagna told PA News Agency: “We will issue an amber extreme high temperature warning until Thursday.

“The temperature may peak around 32 degrees Celsius (89.6 degrees Fahrenheit), and even 33 degrees Celsius (91.4 degrees Fahrenheit) in remote areas of southern England, which is very warm for many people.
“Even cooler areas will have temperatures in their 20s, and thunderstorms may occur elsewhere.”
Mr. Petanya attributed the warm weather to the high-pressure area over Britain.
He added: “I think people should stay away from the noon sun, apply sunscreen outdoors, be alert to any health problems you may encounter, and make sure to stay hydrated.
“Because this heat is still present, people are prone to dehydration, fatigue and nausea, so if you are going to the beach, make sure to stay safe on public transportation.”
