Growing up, when someone did something incredibly illogical, my grandmother often described it as they lost their “forever love.” Unfortunately, this nickname now applies to the entire country. To make matters worse, this country has at least superficially endorsed some beliefs about freedom and the protection of individual rights in the past.
I’m talking about Australia, This has become absolutely crazy in terms of COVID, recently, Delta variantThe situation in the past year and a half was so bad that people couldn’t even go out to walk their dogs. Melbourne is one of the two largest cities in the country. Due to several cases among the movers from Sydney, after more than a year, the lockdown was re-entered again this week.
As far as they are concerned, Australian officials are acting as tyrants, asking people to do completely illogical things that are not necessary to do basic things at all.

There are 24 million people in Australia. Currently, the average number of people dying from new coronary pneumonia in Australia every day is zero. No, this is not a typo. They have zero deaths per day on average. As far as the case is concerned, their 7-day average In a country of 24 million people, there are 135 cases every day. Based on this, they are re-entering the lockdown and require triple testing so that even vaccinated people can go anywhere.
Now, some people will claim that these overall lower numbers are the result of the blockade. I don’t buy it for two reasons. First, we have seen large-scale peaks and deaths in countries that are also blocked. Australians, especially in the densely populated cities of Melbourne and Sydney, are particularly good at the idea of a lockdown and fail the smell test.
In addition, look at other countries with similar climates in Africa, such as Madagascar and Mozambique, Neither of these have caused much of a problem with COVID, which suggests that the virus may perform poorly in some parts of the world, not just based on its heat or cold. In other words, I very much doubt whether Australia’s arbitrary and arbitrary mitigation measures are a panacea against COVID, because it is not in Europe. On the contrary, I suspect that their position on the earth is the greatest help, because the results seen in other countries using the same mitigation technology are very different. As a giant island with a closed border, they have not compromised their efforts.
Finally, the big problem with what Australia is doing is not ending the game. Forever zero COVID is not a realistic goal. Will Australians stay locked in the house until time is over? This does not seem to exist to me. Life ultimately needs to balance risks, and abandoning this balance out of fear can have negative long-term effects. Humans are not laboratory animals.
At some point, Australian citizens and residents will have to stand up for their rights. If they don’t do it, no one else will do it for them.
