FreedomFest 2021: a bipartisan scam
This is the sixth article in a series of FreedomFest 2021 articles. FreedomFest 2021 is created by PhD.Mark Skusen, An economist and presidential researcher at Chapman University in California. This article covers the discussion of the two-party cooperation group in Washington, DC, and whether the two major parties really care about working together to solve problems. The group includes Jo Jorgensen (2020 Liberal Party Presidential Candidate), John Fund (State Correspondent for the National Review), James Lucier (Managing Director of Capital Alpha) and host Grover Nordquist (Chairman of U.S. Tax Reform).
Nordqvist: Republicans and Democrats combined their pet projects through “compromises,” which led to a huge government. This is the dilemma we are in. The latest “thing” is the current infrastructure bill.
Lucier: The first vote failed on Wednesday. There are many “things” in the Infrastructure Act that are not infrastructure.
Nordqvist: Was electoral reform ever bipartisan?
Fund: A bipartisan bill (Help America Vote Act-Chris Dodd is a sponsor). Since then, election integrity has been completely polarized and partisan. The Democrats were very worried when they lost Congress in 2010 and realized that the Tea Party was an existential threat, so they used the IRS to hunt them down. Then it was decided that maybe they were not the majority party, but succumbed to things like harvesting votes to guarantee the Democratic election. Everything is now to seize and maintain power. What the Republicans did at the state level was to restore the playing field to its pre-pandemic state. There are many examples of Republican voter fraud (in cities controlled by Republicans in the past), but now all major cities are managed by Democrats (this is where the fraud lies). Election integrity is a crisis of trust in our government. People think their votes are not important.
Jorgensen: The biggest problem is that we do not have two parties-we have two wings of the same party. What liberals do is to combine the strengths of both sides. I can’t speak today. Republicans are almost as generous as Democrats. The Democratic Party used to be anti-war; now they are advocates of perpetual war in the Middle East.
Nordquist: How do third parties get involved in political debates?
Jorgensen: I like when the two sides disagree, because then we will have a real debate on the differences. At that time we can help shape the debate. In addition, the deadlock is not a bad thing.
Funds: The only bill Obama supported during the Senate is the Government Transparency Act. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) suddenly criticized the division of constituencies that the Democratic Party previously liked in 2010. The Democrats and Republicans are constantly facing each other on issues; there is no consistency. When voters should decide who Congress should be, we let Congress decide who the voters should be.
Jorgensen: Cultural issues have been developing in the direction of liberal ideology, such as gay marriage. Although blacks voted overwhelmingly for the Democratic Party in the general election, when they voted for a specific issue/topic in a referendum, they voted for conservatives.
Lucier: Democrats and Republicans vote on money issues (big dollars), but not on people and issues. That should be the niche of the Liberal Party.
Nordqvist: Did the two parties agree to keep liberals away from voting and debate?
Jorgenson: Of course there is. They put forward a high enough demand for poll numbers that the Liberal Party (or other third-party) candidates are not eligible to vote or debate.
Funds: The Presidential Debate Committee is manipulated by two private entities, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. The two parties seek to consolidate the two-party system.
Jorgensen: The committee is a privately funded entity and is not transparent to the public. If we can get on the stage of debate, people will eventually hear our message (this will resonate with many people).
Nordquist: Is the ranking selection vote an improvement or a bad thing?
Jorgensen: Improve; I support it.
Fund: If you can’t explain electoral reform in 25 words, that’s a bad idea. it’s complicated. This is a problem when the person with the most votes does not win. In addition, how many people take the trouble to rank candidates? The trial run in New York failed. Political activists spend time ranking voters, but ordinary voters will only vote for their favorite people. The real problem with politics is that our country was established as a non-political country, and politics is only the focus of election campaigns. Not as political as old Europe. CRT is based on 24×7 racist politics; that is not American.
Nordquist: What about the term limit? Has the movement stopped? Will there be any impact after the national measures are passed?
Funds: The states with term limits have had some influence on the political class. The political class firmly opposes the term limit because it will eventually take away their power. Lobbyists also hate tenure restrictions because it prevents them from making paid bribes. The staff also hate them because they will become stronger over time when they serve long-elected members. Thanks to Anthony Kennedy, we lost the term limit decision in the Supreme Court in 1995. The political class claimed that this was too “destructive.” If the vote is held today, it will be another 5-4 vote, but this time it is for the term limit. Remember, it was public pressure that changed the system of direct election of U.S. senators. Similar pressure is required to impose term limits.
Nordqvist: How does the Liberal Party influence Congress?
Jorgensen: Gay marriage is a good example. For example, The One and Shrillary both opposed this issue. Medical marijuana is another type. Criminal justice reform is the third example.
Cvrk question: How do constitutional conservatives and liberals break through the left-wing wall of the media?
Fund: Next time we get an updated telecommunications law, we will get a freer Internet. The media loves and supports power.
Lucier: The power of the Internet is working in the wrong way. The media crowded out everything else.
Nordquist: In terms of more media options, this is a more open media world than in the past. In the past, only three networks imitated the same information. By no means perfect, but much better, especially thanks to conservative talk radio.
