A letter from the program director:
Hi, I’m Dr. Janine Vance, Director of the U.S. Program to Combat Child Trafficking. I’m also a dreamer of the first historic event called “Adoption Trafficking Awareness Symposium” on Saturday, June 18, 2022 in Washington State.
Along with international, interracial, domestic and post-discovery adopters from around the world, I am coordinating a full-day educational program to educate the public about an unknown global crisis called adoption trafficking. We will discuss how children are sometimes sought for intercountry adoption and their lifelong consequences.
The purpose of this educational campaign is to protect local and global communities, families and at-risk parents from the commodification of children.
We have great attendees who are willing to travel from all over the world to present at this event. The ACT USA team is proud to welcome Arun Dohle, Executive Director and Field Fellow of Anti-Child Trafficking Europe | India to the US for this groundbreaking program. Mr. Dohle has given numerous interviews on overseas trafficking cases and shares his expertise on children’s rights privately with intercountry adopters and publicly at TEDx, among others. His presentation was titled “The Intersection Between Child Trafficking and International Adoption”.
Other profound adoption trafficking experiences include Chilean-born adoptee Taylor Graff. Shockingly, his mother was told he died in childbirth. However, he was dealt with for international adoption shortly after birth. He recently appeared on ABC Nightline News and Good Morning America. Other important panelists include adult adopters and allies from Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa; they also share much-needed activism in their respective areas of expertise, and we are fortunate to hear their experiences as a group.
