After being strongly opposed and complaining that it might contribute to the spread of the coronavirus, former US President Barack Obama cancelled his 60th birthday party plan.
According to the New York Times, Obama’s spokesperson Hannah Hankins announced the cancellation in a statement on Wednesday morning.
She said: “Due to the new spread of the Delta variant in the past week, President Obama and Mrs. Obama decided to significantly reduce the scale of the event to include only family members and close friends.
“He is grateful to others for sending birthday wishes from far away, and looks forward to seeing people soon.”
Obama plans to host a large outdoor party in Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. Insider’s Kelsey Vlamis previously reported.

The outlet said that they are required to be vaccinated, need to be tested for a negative coronavirus, and that someone will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the coronavirus rules.
In view of the virus, some invitees decided not to participate in the event.
“The Times” pointed out that the White House Chief of Staff Ronald A. Klain (Ronald A. Klain) decided not to attend.
Alan Dershowitz, a former Harvard law professor who defended Trump’s impeachment, told the New York Times that Obama should cancel or postpone the event.
“Everyone is talking about it, but no one is talking about it actively,” he said. “Some people make excuses for this. No one says it’s a good idea.”
US President Joe Biden also stated that he would not attend, but he did not publicly mention public health issues.
