As Delta variants continue to spread In the United States, the European Union announced last week that it would remove the United States from the list of countries whose citizens can travel to the European Union without restrictions.
Only two months after lifting travel restrictions for vaccinated Americans who tested negative for Covid-19, the European Union once again recommended that its 27 member states restrict all travel from the United States, with the exception of basic travel.
The announcement has led many European countries to announce personal restrictions on U.S. travelers, which now vary from country to country, providing American travelers with a piece of entry requirements for negotiation.
The following is a summary of the new entry requirements announced in the last few days, which can be found on the website of the U.S. Embassy in Europe:
- exist Italy, U.S. tourists who are fully vaccinated must be tested for Covid-19 72 hours before entering the country. Visitors who have not been vaccinated must self-quarantine for 5 days upon arrival.
- Dutch All unvaccinated U.S. travelers have been banned from entering the country, and vaccinated U.S. travelers are required to isolate for ten days, but if the Covid-19 test shows a negative result, it can be reduced to five days.
- Bulgaria With one of the strictest restrictions, any traveler from the United States, regardless of nationality, is now barred from entering.
- Sweden All non-essential travel from the United States has been banned, regardless of whether it is vaccinated or not, and the United States has been removed from the list of “safe countries” in non-EU countries that are not subject to travel restrictions.
- Denmark U.S. travelers who have not been vaccinated have been banned from entering the United States, while travelers who have been vaccinated will need to pass a Covid-19 test to enter.

Some of the European destinations most popular with American tourists, including France, Portugal and Greece, have not changed the entry rules for American residents.
This means that American travelers can enter these countries after undergoing a negative Covid test no more than 72 hours before arrival.
Before the European Union changed the status of the United States on its list, Germany imposed additional restrictions on American travelers. Germany requires American travelers to be vaccinated or tested by PCR to prove that they have been infected and recovered before, or be quarantined for at least 5 days upon entry.
Popular European tourist destinations outside the EU also impose some restrictions on American tourists.
The United Kingdom requires U.S. tourists to test negative for Covid-19, while Norway prohibits U.S. tourists, except for those who prove that they need to enter the country for family reasons.
