The Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) reported on Thursday that as officials are working to eliminate more and more highly contagious Delta variants, this year’s local Covid-19 cases have seen the largest increase in a single day .
After Australia’s largest city, Sydney, imposed a strict two-week lockdown, the surge in cases has increased the possibility of further extension of restrictions. Officials blamed illegal family visits for the continued increase in infection rates.
New South Wales has reported 38 new local cases, up from 27 a day ago, 11 of which had been in the community during the infection.
In view of the slow promotion of vaccines in Australia, New South Wales Governor Gladys Berejiklian (Gladys Berejiklian) urged residents not to go to the homes of family and friends, citing the high spread of the delta strain.

Berejiklian told reporters in Sydney: “It’s really important for all of us to stay the course and follow the health advice so that we have the best chance to get rid of this blockade in time.”
Since June 26, one-fifth of the country’s 25 million people live in Sydney, so the strict stay-at-home order has come into effect.
When asked if it will extend beyond the current planned end date of July 16, Berejiklian stated that controlling the Delta variant would be an “unrealistic assumption” when vaccination rates are low and people are ignoring social distancing rules.
Starting Friday, the state’s police force will send an additional 100 police officers in southwestern Sydney to ensure that residents wear masks and do not violate Covid-19 restrictions.
“Obviously, we still have community members who don’t follow the rules,” Deputy Commissioner Mal Lanyon said in a press conference.
“Those police officers will be a very obvious presence,” he said.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that if the lockdown period is extended, the federal government will ensure adequate financial support, saying the state is in a state of “quick sand” and urged to be patient.
At the telemedia conference, Morris said:
I know people are getting tired… and getting frustrated. This is a virus we are dealing with, and it tends to make its own rules.
