OpenAI competitor Anthropic is in talks to raise $750 million, led by Menlo Ventures
Anthropic, an OpenAI competitor founded by former OpenAI employees, is in talks to raise $750 million in funding led by Menlo Ventures, valuing it at about $18 billion, nearly the $4.1 billion the startup was valued at earlier this year 4.5 times. This approach largely discourages new players. The company's valuation won't surge until a possible next round of funding.
Founded in 2021, Anthropic has received funding from top companies including Google, Salesforce, and Zoom. Anthropic has raised a total of $750 million in two funding rounds in April and May, including a strategic investment from Google, giving it a 10% stake in the company. By partnering with Anthropic, Google can finally compete with Microsoft and OpenAI.

It's crazy that David Holz founded this company in the middle of 2021 and now we're here. Now, venture capitalists are literally begging him to take their money. Failure to do so would allow Holtz to maintain control rather than be beholden to investors. I think as the world changes, so do the times for genAI.

Holz’s dedication to his vision and focus on the core of his company is remarkable and refreshing. But I wonder if, at some point, he'll see an opportunity to take a strategic investment to compete with OpenAI (DALL-E) and Stability AI. As soon as he feels compelled to do so (if at all), you're already on the defensive. We've seen Anthropic evolve in lockstep with OpenAI. The key is to stay on top of R&D and trends.

The R1 is largely considered a simpler version of Humane's advanced AI Pin. R1 is priced at $199 vs $699 and is creating a ChatGPT vibe, In this case, a batch size of 10,000 was used to win over consumers. As of this writing, the company's third batch of 10,000 units has sold out.
To appreciate Rabbit R1 is to understand where we are in the rapid evolution of genAI.
Now, we are in the second wave, where models take input data and generate new data.
Wave 3 This is the age of interactive artificial intelligence, where conversations become the user interface and autonomous robots connect to each other to perform tasks behind the scenes.
So what exactly is the Rabbit R1?

Rabbit R1 is not intended to replace a smartphone, but rather serves as a pocket-sized companion that can perform a variety of digital tasks and interact with apps using AI capabilities 1 2 .

In some ways, the Rabbit R1, in a basic sense, reminds me of chambi Internet radio in the Web 2.0 era. At the time, Chubby offered the ability to connect your favorite internet sites and apps into one super cute device. What's more, with the user-friendly AI Pin and now the R1, coupled with Apple's Vision Pro, we're getting a glimpse of what the post-phone world will look like. Not saying it's going to happen anytime soon, but it's going to happen.

Microsoft launched Copilot service. For $20 per month, users can use the latest models of OpenAI ChatGPT, including GPT-4 Turbo with daily work capabilities in Office integration, and can also build application-specific Copilot GPTs.
