The department urges people to consider leaving the country if they can be safe.
It also encourages all Canadians in Ethiopia to regularly check and register with the Department of Global Affairs for travel advice and inquiries.
The Department of Global Affairs stated that the Canadian Embassy in Addis Ababa is still open and consular officials are ready to help Canadians in need of emergency assistance.
Canadians can also contact the Department’s Emergency Observation and Response Center 24/7 through sos?international.gc.ca.
