Heavy rain caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida New York City enters a state of emergency Earlier on Thursday, streets and subways were flooded by record flooding. Videos posted online show subway passengers standing on the seats of cars filled with water, while other videos show vehicles flooding windows on major roads inside and outside the city.
The Office of the National Weather Service in New York announced the first flash flood emergency in the area on Wednesday night. The alert was for “very rare situations where serious threats and catastrophic damage caused by flash floods are occurring or will happen soon.”
