The mayor of Baltimore, Brandon Scott, accused the unvaccinated of allowing the city to restore the indoor mask requirements that will take effect on Monday.
Scott said at a press conference on Friday: “For those who are frustrated by wearing masks and have not been vaccinated, please look in the mirror. It is your fault for us to re-mandatory to wear masks indoors.” According to WBAL-TV 11.
“Make sure people get vaccinated. If you haven’t been vaccinated, shut up and don’t complain. People need to wear masks to protect themselves and those around them.”
Scott announced on Thursday that he will restore Baltimore’s mask regulations as required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guidelines. He has previously stated that if science requires it, he will not hesitate to restore the requirement to wear a mask.
conform to @CDCgov Guidance, I am restoring the indoor masking regulations for all residents and guests in Baltimore. As we continue to encourage vaccination, wearing a mask will help prevent the Delta variant to the maximum and stop its spread.

In addition to restoring the city’s mask regulations, Scott and Baltimore City Health Commissioner Letitia Dzirasa also urged people to get vaccinated.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently updated its guidelines, urging fully vaccinated people in areas where the spread of the coronavirus is “high” or “significant” to resume wearing masks.
According to the agency’s data, between July 30 and August 5, Baltimore City and 13 counties in Maryland belonged to CDC’s “high” or “substantial” levels of COVID transmission.
The mayor’s office said in a press release: “The Delta variant is here and it poses a serious threat to our unvaccinated residents,” Dzirasa said. “I am not only talking to you as a health commissioner, but also as the mother of a child who is too young to be vaccinated. We have the ability to slow the spread of COVID-19, and the actions we take together will protect the most vulnerable of us.”
According to data from the Mayor’s Office, COVID cases have increased by approximately 374% in the past 4 weeks as of Wednesday, with more than 50 cases per 100,000 residents in an average of 7 days between July 27 and August 2 .
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan Said Thursday Even if the delta variant of the coronavirus surges in his state, he will not enforce new mask regulations or order businesses to shut down.
Hogan said at a press conference: “The enforcement and closure of masks will not eliminate the threat of this Delta variant virus.” On the contrary, he said that vaccines are the most effective weapon against the virus and COVID-19.
According to data from the Maryland Department of Health, the average seven-day number of coronavirus cases in the state has increased by more than 200% in recent weeks. Almost all new cases are suspected to be caused by the Delta variant.
