Seattle Mayor-elect Bruce Harrell announced his transition team members on November 16. Nearly 150 members form the most racially and ideologically diverse mayor’s transition team in Seattle’s history.
The transition is built around 12 thematic-oriented committees, which will be chaired by former U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell, interim CEO Eddie Lincoln, Uwajimaya President and CEO Denise Moriguchi, and Sea Mar founder and CEO Rogelio Riojas , And 23 joint team leaders.
Harrell said: “With this transition team, we have the opportunity to craft an urgent and forward-looking agenda to restore our city and push Seattle forward.”
Teams of local citizens, business, protection, youth advocacy, charity, labor, and community leaders will help shape and define Harrell’s agenda.
“I’m very happy to be elected Mayor Harrell to make Seattle’s small businesses and working families the core of this transformation,” Moriguchi said. “As we strive to escape the pandemic, these local perspectives are indispensable for formulating plans to ensure economic recovery and future growth.”
The 12 groups are organized around the following key areas: art, culture and nightlife; climate and environment; education and youth; government operations; housing and the homeless; labor and labor; philanthropy; public health; safety and justice;
Small and local businesses; transportation and land use; and sports and coaching.
Harrell said: “After a long period of time-sometimes very divided-campaign season, the most important thing we can do is to prove that we are committed to uniting our cities.”
“By convening these leaders to help determine the priorities of our government, I made it clear that I intend to let everyone have a place at the negotiating table.”
