Bad breathIllinois-based Blistex Inc.’s foot care product Odor-Eaters anti-fungal and foot odor reducing spray has issued a recall notice because they may pose a life-threatening cancer risk.
The recall affects 41 batches of two Odor-Eaters spray products containing benzene, a human carcinogen.
The recall notice stated that exposure to benzene through inhalation, oral administration or skin contact can cause cancer, such as leukemia and bone marrow cancer, as well as potentially life-threatening blood diseases.
During internal testing, it was found that the recalled Odor-Eaters products contained low levels of benzene contamination. The company said it has not received any reports of adverse events related to the recall.
Affected eater sprays are packaged in aerosol cans.
The recalled products include Odor-Eaters spray powder and Odor-Eaters Stink Stoppers Spray, which are sold at retailers and distributors across the country.
