On Tuesday, when Marie-Philip Poulin scored the overtime championship in a 3-2 victory over the United States, Canada won its first women’s World Hockey Championship in nearly a decade.
The Canadian won the gold medal nine years after finishing on the podium for the last time in 2012, and did not enter the finals for the first time in the history of the 2019 competition.
The United States has won the world championship five times in a row, having won eight times in the previous nine times.
Canada remains unbeaten in the Calgary Championship.
Pauline scored in 7 minutes and 22 seconds in 3 vs. 3 overtime. Brianne Jenner passed the ball to Poulin, who shot from the crossbar into the net.
The goal was initially abandoned by officials on the ice, but the Canadians quickly celebrated with each other.
After a leg injury, assistant captain Blair Turnbull (Blayre Turnbull) celebrated with his teammates from a stretcher.
Jenner had one goal and two assists, and Jamie Lee Latre also scored for the Canadian team. Jocelyne Larocque had two assists. Ann-Renee Desbiens made 23 saves in this victory.
Alex Carpenter scored twice, and American Nicole Hensley turned and left after losing 29 shots.

Canada and the United States need extra time to decide the world championship for the fifth time in the past seven gold medal games.
The US team led 2-0 with Carpenter’s two goals after the opening, but the hosts evened the score in the second quarter.
At 6 minutes and 42 seconds of the second quarter, Latre made a shot from between Hensley’s cushions by La Roque to equalize the score.
Jenner halved the score with a strong team goal of 4:13. In a goal contention, the assistant captain hit the ball with a backhand forehand and defeated Hensley’s glove.

Melodie Daoust leads Canada and the championship with 6 goals and 6 assists in 7 games, and leading teammate Jenner leads with 3 goals and 7 assists in 6 games.
The Canadian team did not enter the finals for the first time in the history of the 2019 Women’s Championship, when they lost to Finland 4-2 in the semifinals.
The COVID-19 pandemic has killed international women’s hockey, which means that people have to wait for another chance to win the gold medal.

The 2020 women’s championships in Halifax and Truro, New Hampshire, were cancelled. These communities won the competition again in 2021.
After being postponed from April to May, the then governor of Nova Scotia cancelled the game on the day the team left for the province.
The Men’s Under-18 Championship held in Texas in April and the Men’s World Championship in Latvia in May ended successfully.
Less than six months before the Winter Olympics in Beijing in February, the Canadian Ice Hockey Association rescheduled the women’s championship in Calgary in August.
The Canadian Hockey Association does not sell tickets in Calgary. Only family members are allowed to enter the dedicated area of WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Center. Players from other countries watched Tuesday’s final on the other side of the arena.
Players, team staff and officials were tested for COVID-19 before arrival, during the five-day quarantine period before the game, and during the game.
They were confined to the match hotel and arena, and took buses between the two locations.
The International Ice Hockey Federation said on Tuesday that it had not tested positive for more than 3,000 coronaviruses and all teams could travel on Wednesday.

Canada, the United States, Finland, Switzerland, Russia, Japan and host China have seats on the women’s hockey stadiums in the Olympic Games in 10 countries. The remaining three places will be filled through the Olympic qualifiers in November.
The International Ice Hockey Federation is expected in September to approve the inclusion of the women’s championship in the 2022 Olympic Games starting in August. The host city has not yet been named.
The women’s championship will resume to spring in non-Olympic years.
The International Ice Federation is also expected to expand the women’s roster to 25, including three goalkeepers, to match the men’s roster in future World Championships.
